Having experienced the mosquito attack at dusk last night there was no way I was getting up before sunrise so I just laid in my sleeping bag, waking up, waiting for the sun to rise over the horizon. Even then, there were plenty of mosquitos around – what a PITA. We fought them all morning while getting ready, watching each other to see if they landed on either of us. Killed a bunch but one or two got through :-(. Continue reading La Grande, OR to Lewiston, ID

Brooks Memorial SP, WA to La Grande, OR
It was cold this morning! According to weather.com the temperature was 47F (8.3 C). No wonder my hands felt like ice blocks while making coffee. I’m a warm weather person so 47F is down right ‘wintery’ for me ;-). By my standards that’s damn cold for July. Continue reading Brooks Memorial SP, WA to La Grande, OR
Bend, OR to Brooks Memorial State Park, WA
We spent the morning in our hotel room catching up on our blog postings and pictures as well as planning our route for the day. After finishing off cold leftover pizza from last nights dinner 😉 we left the hotel at 11:00 and after a quick grocery stop at Safeway were on our way towards Maryhill State Park in Washington. I had called the reservation phone number and although I couldn’t make reservations for the same day found out that they still had five camp sites available. Pretty good odds I thought. Unity, OR to Bend, OR
We spent quite a bit of time planning our route for the next six days since we have to be in Missoula, MT on the 23rd. Weighing all the options/routes, etc. The park host had dropped off a book of all the state rec areas and parks so we scoped out which ones we might want to stay. Since we are in Oregon I wanted to check out Bend. Continue reading Unity, OR to Bend, OR

We arrived at the BMW dealer shortly after 9:00 for our appointment to have the fork seal on the F650GS replaced. Not too busy, seemingly only one gentleman in front of us. Looked like we would be able to get back on the road by 12:00. Hah. Wrong. Continue reading Boise, ID to Unity, OR

Boise? Yes, another change in plans. After looking at the weather forecast for Missoula, MT (mid 60s F [15 C] and rain) we decide to alter our route and head south. Taking scenic route 75 and then 21 to Boise was the plan for the day.

(Evil) Google Maps
For those of you that have been following along and are checking our route via the provided link no Google Maps, you get to thank Diane for all her hard work on putting them together. Not only that, but if you haven’t clicked on the blue pins, the links, or the 45 degree sloping line on the left, please do since Diane actually includes additional comments and information in them :-).
Why evil you ask? Well, let’s just say that Diane has uttered a few choice words when working with the program – case in point is a pop-up box that appears when clicking on the ‘send as e-mail’ button. The pop-up has a URL and two buttons that read ‘Create new map’ – WTF?? Diane has been patient and persistent in getting it all to work. Big ‘thank you’ to her :D.
P.S. Comments may not exist on all maps – so they are like easter eggs ;-).
Lava Hot Springs, ID to Challis, ID
Per our decision last night, we broke camp without making breakfast and headed to Pocatello for an Albertson’s supermarket that had a Starbucks inside which we had found last evening via the internet. Double duty – get coffee as well as some groceries for the next few days :-). Sunday morning in Pocatello was pretty slow so we took our time drinking coffee and shopping. Manila, UT to Lava Hot Springs, ID
Overcast skies greeted us when we woke up. Not a good sign. While getting ready and breaking camp we kept a watchful eye on the weather. We got a few sprinkles but it dried out quickly.

We left the state park around 9:30 heading for Vernal where we stopped at Super Wal-mart to pick up some groceries and odds & ends. Heading further north on US 191 we made our ascent into the mountains again, this time snaking our way up a long sloped mountain side. Continue reading Duchesne, UT ot Manila, UT
